We went on a really fun hike down the old Genesee Valley Canal - TopicsExpress

We went on a really fun hike down the old Genesee Valley Canal near Letchworth Park. It served this area in the early-to-mid 1800s, running from Rochester to the Pennsylvania state line. Although it closed in 1878, there are still locks that can be seen on this mile long path. We were joking at one point about climbing hills - probably a little better 20 years ago than now - and remembering an experience at Skybrook Campgrounds in the 80s. The camping gang had embarked on a hike and came to a very steep hill. The young boys went on ahead and within a few minutes were heard a panicked scream. It was our son, Steve. Turns out, he got 3/4 of the way up the hill and turned around to look behind him and kind of panicked! He was fine, continued the hike and all was well. But it did teach him a good lesson - dont look back! And that can be a good lesson for us today. I find it interesting how we can sometimes look at the past through rose-colored glasses. We tend to magnify and glorify what was done back in the day and look at it as a rose-colored memory. How about the children of Israel? They spoke of the good old days in Egypt, but as slaves they basically ate table scraps. They barely scraped out a miserable existence. Yet in their imaginations, they magnified these scraps into some sumptuous feast they had each and every day. Dont build up the past in our minds. Remember it for what it was. Dont allow the enemy to pull us down by fantasizing about it. We need to protect our minds, and dont look back. I really believe the Lord is telling some of us today: Dont look back. Leave the past right where it is - in the past and move forward - walk with Me, then you will have an honored place at My table . . . forever. And ever!
