We went to Gajoldoba on 29th Nov 2014 and stayed there for 1 night, Gajoldoba is a reservoir formed by the first Teesta Barrage, which was built for irrigational purposes. It is surrounded by the Baikunthapur forests, and is an hours drive from Siliguri. It was 3pm at the Baikunthapur Forest on the first day(29th Nov) I and my birding friend Tanmay Haldar decided to have an hour birding at the forest.Trees are mainly shal,Teak, Mehegini etc and one side of the forest is full of tea plants. The count of birds are very less(I guess)in the forest or we were unlucky to find them may be the reason is absence of fruit trees in the forest. When we were almost frustrated and utterly sad suddenly I found an unknown bird just came and sat on a Teak tree, within a second I took a record shot of the bird. I felt very sad because the shot was not at all clear which is nothing but a record shot. Suddenly Tanmay da asked me to have a look on the above of a very high Shal tree and my lens found the bird once again but still it was very far from us. We both captured two record shots of it but the second shot much better than before, then we moved forward few steps. I have a habit to walk very slow while birding and as a result of that I encountered the bird once again just above my head, sitting on a branch. Distance was pretty far and the condition of light was very poor but still it was managable and captured some shots....: Tanmay da missed the shot....I tried to call him but unfortunately he went very far from me at that moment. I spent almost 5-6 mins with the bird and took some descent shot i.e.more than satisfactory shots of it. The bird is completely unknown to me perhaps I knew it that it could be a Raptor but was not sure, later I came to know the name from a senior birder and a bird watcher. After Common Kestrel at Rajarhat its the second time I faced another BIRDS OF PREY. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ID-Collared Falconet (Microhierax caerulescens) Baikunthapur Forest,Gajoldoba,New Jalpaiguri,West Bengal 29th Nov 2014 ID help:Sumanta Pramanick and Shubhankar Patra Thank you so much
