We were about to start when the surgeon asked me to come to his side of the operating table. We switched sides. He begins to mark a few points on the patients abdomen. Now, take the scalpel, he says. Hold it like a pencil, but straight. Having no idea what was going on, I took the knife and adjusted my grip. You see these marks?. Uhuh I replied. Take a deep breath. By then, I knew where this was going. I took the deep breath. Now, cut. The following 40 mins or so might be a landmark in my career where I first perform a surgery. It may be just a small operation to remove the appendix, but everybody has their first, and a journey of a thousand miles start with a single step :)
