We were expecting everyone to show respect to the sacrifices made - TopicsExpress

We were expecting everyone to show respect to the sacrifices made by the people of Kurdistan and its peshmerga [fighters] by inviting a representative from Kurdistan to this event and similar such events, Barzani said. A lack of reference to the guerillas and fighters of YPG and PKK aside, his statement is absolutely correct. What sort of conference aims to discuss the ISIS threat yet completely ignores the most effective force fighting ISIS on the battlefield? There needs to be transparency in what exactly this US-led coalition is actually intending to do and these goals need to be justified with concrete steps. Ignoring the Kurds when discussing ISIS is not a concrete step in defeating ISIS. All Kurds have been running on two major emotions since this war began. The first was the obvious sadness and anger that any war brings to the populace involved. The second, however contradictory it may seem, was this overwhelming joy and hope: we the Kurds were no longer friendless. We didnt need to run to the mountains anymore to weather another genocide. We have friends now. And they did pull through. They took their time but they showed up and Kobane still remains standing thanks to effective strikes in coordination with YPG/J (& lately Peshmerga) fighters. So too did we see that in bashur with US airstrikes halting ISIS approach to Hewler (Erbil). But at what cost and what exactly are the intentions of the Coalition? There was a genocide occurring on mount Shingal and yet the US hit ISIS on the road to Hewler first. They swivelled round to Shingal only to find that YPG had already rescued a vast majority of the Ezidi. Provide YPG with heavy weaponry and they will make the same sort of gains we see the Peshmerga making now in bashuri Kurdistan (Peshmerga are closing in on Mosul). Yet barring one set of airdrops, with all the resources dropped being provided by fellow Kurds of the KRG (PUK claimed to be responsible for this though KRG denied it), the West has basically ignored YPG and PKK. Again, when we say ignored we mean politically. The Coalition have been amazing with their support via airstrikes. So then how serious is this coalition in defeating ISIS if it doesnt engage Kurds? Note that Turkey were also invited to this conference in question.
