We were fortunate to meet Marian Tompson, the co-founder of La Leche League, Intl,, at an Advanced Teacher Training for the Bradley Method this past Friday. Little did she know, back in the 50s, that her efforts to bring together a small group of women to support the seemingly minority that wanted to breastfeed their babies that she was launching what was to become an international organization that has helped so many families And heres a tidbit:. She told us they named it La Leche after a statue of Mary in Florida, I think she said, whos full name was Our Lady of Birth and Plentiful Milk or something like that, but in Spanish. And since they would not use the word BREAST in the 50s, La Leche it was! Lovely lady. Very inspiring. Here is a pic with Marian and a few local LB Bradley instructors.
