We were friends....the Mutt and Jeff of Buffalo Center. Ken was tall - I was not. Our politics couldnt be more different. Our religious views were as divergent as could be. The differences were easy to spot. What wasnt so easy to see was the deep bond of friendship that kept us friends for nearly 30 years. The mortar that held us like different bricks in a wall was the joy of playing tennis badly....the savoring of Chinese food (hot & sour soup for me - egg drop for him)....the passion to bargain...(He told everyone my middle name was Hakiim)...he put up with me giving him crap about Fox news....and he shoveled it right back about my ultra liberal (so he called them) politics...there were computers that he introduced me to...there was gardening where Id start his garden plants and he would grow them in the garden....and then there was sauerkraut with Paul Aukes and Walter & Greta Aukes...there were the bull sessions at Runtime Data with Tom Willard....desserts with Tom and Ele Willard, there was the constant banter with Clarice Mayland. We were friends because inspite of all the differences between us...there was a certain je ne sais quoi that knit Mutt to Jeff, Laurel to Hardy, Abbott to Costello and Ken Schutter to me. It was friendship - nothing more...nothing less. And in a lonely world, it makes me smile...because I once had a friend - Ken Schutter. https://youtube/watch?v=NFf3JP4nUdw
