Suddenly, most unexpectedly that sacred benediction came upon us, the other felt it too, without our saying anything [SÚBITAMENTE, DEL MODO MÁS INESPERADO, ESA BENDICIÓN SAGRADA CAYÓ SOBRE NOSOTROS, LA OTRA PERSONA TAMBIÉN LO SINTIÓ SIN QUE SE DIJERA NADA]. As it several times filled a room, this time it seemed to cover the mountainside across the wide, extending valley and beyond the mountains [ASÍ COMO HABÍA COLMADO LA ESTANCIA EN VARIAS OCASIONES, ESTA VEZ PARECIÓ ABARCAR TODO EL FALDEO DE LA MONTAÑA DEL ANCHUROSO DILATADO VALLE Y AUN MÁS ALLÁ DE LAS MONTAÑAS]. It was everywhere [ESTABA POR DOQUIER]. All space seemed to disappear; what was far, the wide gap, the distant snow-covered peaks and the person sitting on the bench faded away [PARECÍA QUE HABÍA DESAPARECIDO TODO EL ESPACIO… LA LONTANANZA, EL ANCHO HUECO DEL VALLE, LOS PICOS LEJANOS CORONADOS DE NIEVE Y LA PERSONA SENTADA EN EL BANCO PARECIERON ESFUMARSE…]. There was not one or two or many but only this immensity [NO HABÍA UNA PERSONA, NI DOS, NI MUCHAS… SÓLO ESTA INMENSIDAD…]. The brain had lost all its responses; it was only an instrument of observation; it was seeing, not as the brain belonging to a particular person, but as a brain which is not conditioned by time-space, as the essence of all brains [EL CEREBRO HABÍA PERDIDO TODAS SUS RESPUESTAS; NO ERA MÁS QUE UN INSTRUMENTO DE OBSERVACIÓN; ESTABA VIENDO —NO COMO EL CEREBRO QUE PERTENECÍA A UNA PERSONA PARTICULAR, SINO COMO UN CEREBRO QUE NO ESTÁ CONDICIONADO POR EL ESPACIOTIEMPO, COMO LA ESENCIA DE TODOS LOS CEREBROS]. It was a quiet night and the whole process was not so intense [FUE UNA NOCHE CALMA Y NO FUE TAN INTENSO TODO EL PROCESO]. On waking this morning, there was an experiencing whose duration was perhaps a minute, an hour or timeless [AL DESPERTAR ESTA MAÑANA SE DIO UN EXPERIMENTAR CUYA DURACIÓN FUE QUIZÁ DE UN MINUTO, UNA HORA O QUE TRANSCURRIÓ FUERA DEL TIEMPO]. An experiencing that is informed with time ceases to be experiencing; what has continuity ceases to be the experiencing [UN EXPERIMENTAR INFORMADO (N. del tr: INFORMAR: (Fil.) DAR FORMA SUSTANCIAL A ALGO) CON TIEMPO DEJA DE SER EXPERIMENTAR; LO QUE TIENE CONTINUIDAD DEJA DE SER EL EXPERIMENTAR]. On waking there was in the very depth, in the measureless depth of the total mind, an intense flame alive and burning furiously, of attention, of awareness, of creation [AL DESPERTAR HABÍA EN LA PROPIA HONDURA, EN LA INCALCULABLE PROFUNDIDAD DE LA MENTE TOTAL, UNA INTENSA LLAMA VIVA QUE ARDÍA FURIOSAMENTE, UNA LLAMA DE ATENCIÓN, DE TOMA DE CONCIENCIA, DE CREACIÓN]. The word is not the thing; the symbol is not the real [LA PALABRA NO ES LA COSA; EL SÍMBOLO NO ES LO REAL]. The fires that burn on the surface of life pass, die away, leaving sorrow and ashes and remembrances [LOS FUEGOS QUE ARDEN EN LA SUPERFICIE DE LA VIDA PASAN, MUEREN, DEJANDO PESADUMBRE Y CENIZAS Y REMEMBRANZAS]. These fires are called life but it’s not life [A ESTOS FUEGOS SE LOS LLAMA VIDA PERO NO ES VIDA]. It’s decay [ES DECADENCIA]. The fire of creation that is destruction is life [EL FUEGO DE CREACIÓN QUE ES DESTRUCCIÓN ES VIDA]. In it there is no beginning, no ending, neither tomorrow nor yesterday [EN ÉL NO HAY PRINCIPIO, NI FINAL, NI MAÑANA, NI AYER]. It’s there and no surface activity will ever uncover it [ESTÁ AHÍ Y NINGUNA ACTIVIDAD DE (LA) SUPERFICIE LO DESENCUBRIRÁ JAMÁS].
