We were informed around 5pm that the Tesco food aid required some logistics help. By 8pm Sunil Lingam was there with another 6 friends to help them sort and pack. Around 10pm we were told they needed help to load cargo onto the plane at klia2. Some of us were there by midnight. Thank you Nuraini Mohd Salleh, your friend whom I forgot the name and Bru Tall. Although we werent needed in the end, at least we were there when asked to. :) So that was the adventure for the night. A little bit that we did. A part of giving that is our duty. And yet how small a part we played. I can imagine how it is like for those who are at ground zero. Those who put their lives in peril in service of those in need. It is people like these whose service should be throughly recognised. The soldier. The doctor. The fireman. The policeman. So many uncounted and unheralded. And often unappreciated. And still a duty done without flagging or question. So pardon me if I dont really care if the PM was away in Hawaii, or LGE is in Paris or DSAI in NZ. I know they have their role to play but I am not keeping score. I dont mind if they get the attention and the publicity for whatever political mileage. Again thats the way the game is played. Thats politics. They are politicians. But it isnt a game to many. Not with so many lives at stake. Its shouldnt be about who has done more or who cares more. Nor should it be a game of one upmanship. Not for the common folks at least. For us, we just do what we can. And at the end of the day, in situations like these, it would be the Sunils, Nurainis, and Sharils I want beside me. It would be the doctor, soldier, fireman and policeman I look up to and thank. There is still much to be done and deeper waters to forge before this is all over. Many of us I am sure feel tired. I myself am mentally tired over the politicking and physically tired with the effort. I have learned to ignore the first because it isnt worthy but find the second to be bearable and worthwhile. I hope we will still go on. I hope we will look at whats really important and needed. We just do what we can do. Nothing more. Nothing less. We arent heroes. Just your everyday Malaysian. And thats good enough for me.
