We were not even a nation before 15th August 1947. We were society who denounced education to all, giving birth to a girl was considered a crime, in the name of religion we even refused to touch some people, in the service of God women were subjugated and were made slaves for life. No doubt we bolster about our Sabhyata, Parampara, morals and ethics. But we also followed the culture of abusing humanity. This society was made into a nation and given a constitution and directives to move forward towards a new civilization. Democracy doesnt mean voting and cursing politicians. It also means questioning the odds that deny a human his/her minimal dignity. It also means fearlessly challenging the structure that hold humanity backwards. This Republic dint come to us easily, it wasnt easy to build a modern nation when the society had a plague of fundamentalism, feudalism and colonialism.
