We were on our final FTX and were told to pull 50/50 security - TopicsExpress

We were on our final FTX and were told to pull 50/50 security overnight. My battle, we shall call him Private Ghetto, didnt want to get up for his turn to pull watch. Being the newbie Private I was and having had the General Orders beaten into me over the past several weeks. I was too scared to just curl up in my fart sack and go to sleep. DS J came by as he had been doing all night and asked why I was still on watch when all the other positions had switched. Now I had a dilema, do I rat out my battle buddy for being a lazy piece of shit or do I lie to the Drill Sgt. and make something up? I told the Drill Sgt. that Private Ghetto wasnt able to stand post and so I am doing it to keep integrity of the perimeter. I said this hoping that DS J wouldnt question me further. He did, and in reply to his why isnt Pvt. Ghetto able to stand post I said because Pvt. Ghetto was feeling ill after running the night infiltration course. Now DS J, who was the companys Sr DS took a moment to think about what I just said. Which I mistaken took as a good thing. He looked at me and said PVT, put your gas mask on. You are doing the right thing, you are looking out for the team, however I take it your battle buddy is a blue falcon. As soon as I put on my promask the DS dropped two CS grenades, one at each end of the shelter half that contained Pvt. Ghetto. I instinctively called gas, gas, gas. However, poor Pvt. Ghetto came stumbling out, choking, crying the whole 9 without any gear. No mask, no kevlar, no rifle, nothing. The DS had a field day with Pvt. Ghetto making him do PT until he puked. Then DS J told Pvt. Ghetto to stand post and ordered me to go get some sleep. Never again for the remaining week did Pvt. Ghetto try to avoid or sleep through duty. 2001 Ft. Jackson Ft. Jackson, SC
