We were on our way to do our irregular grocery shopping, and since - TopicsExpress

We were on our way to do our irregular grocery shopping, and since wed not eaten, I suggested to Pinislovely Thai that we try this new restaurant at the corner of Soi 17 and 3rd Road. The name is a mouthful, but it also subtitles itself as a French bistro, so I thought I might get some Soupe à loignon grâtinée as I used to have it after late nights partying in Paris. I started with the soup (110b) while my missus ordered Latna Tale (sp?), and I followed it with a steak au poivre vert (steak with green peppercorn sauce). The soup arrived, and I was disappointed to see it was heavy on onions with a couple of slices of bread floating in it. They had been broiled a bit, perhaps, but it was definitely not what I had been expecting. If you like lots of cooked onions, it would be a good soup. It was decent, and my missus liked it, but I immediately looked up a recipe online and showed her what I was looking for. They had called it Onion Soup - Parisian style. Okay, that could have been pretty much anything. Ill not order it again, but when we went shopping afterwards, I bought the ingredients to make my own. Perhaps Ill follow up with a picture of my home cooked version later. The Latna Tale came, and she gave it a 7 out of 10, which is acceptable for her in a farang restaurant. Shortly thereafter, my pepper steak arrived, with the sauce on the side and potatoes dauphinoise. The pepper steak and sauce were okay. It was a decent cut of beef, but it was overcooked a bit, since Id asked for medium rare and got more medium. The potatoes were not very appetizing looking and they had the heat of being microwaved on high for too long. I had to wonder how long they had been waiting for someone to order them. Overall for the steak meal(410 baht I believe), a 5 out of 10. The last picture in this series is what my ideal onion soup would look like..just to give you an idea of what I was hoping (against hope) to get. If, as their name implies, they are open 24 hours, I might return to try their desserts, since I tend to want a sweet dessert around 3am and a nice creme brulee might just do the trick.
