We were pleased to see that Joshua Sharfstein, Secretary of the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene has finally agreed to resign, especially after the national debacle that he and Anthony Brown were responsible for with the rollout of the Maryland Health Benefit Exchange. But, his resignation should be immediate. Saying he plans to resign in January is hardly newsworthy. Sharfstein was Anthony Browns lieutenant in this entire boondoggle; the Hogan-Rutherford administration would never allow this level of incompetence in one of the states most important agencies and would have demanded his immediate resignation in January anyway. In November the voters will also have an opportunity to decide if the person most responsible for the scandal, Anthony Brown has earned a promotion or if he should also be terminated in January.
