We were sent to replenish. Thinking about the death of James - TopicsExpress

We were sent to replenish. Thinking about the death of James Rebhorn and Philip Seymour Hoffman, both having happened recently. Two of my favorite actors, dead within months of each other. And then I remember all the hours I spent studying Dustin Hoffman in his early roles. I remember choosing to do all 10 plays in high school, rather than try out for track or wrestling. And I recall showing up to places to be a background extra, and finding a bigger opportunity upon showing up. I didnt know it the whole way through, but clearly I was training myself to try and become a really good actor someday, and as I see many good actors dying, I realize this idea of replenishing is extremely important. Who are you replenishing? What teachers and professors, doctors and scientists, mothers and fathers, writers and vocalists are you training to replenish when they pass? Dont look at this in some grim way, focusing on the death. Look at it as your God-given opportunity to do something really well, believe in what you are doing, and someday be that person for someone who needs and wants it. But dont look at it as being the next someone. Youre the first YOU. Replenishing. Find some solace in that, right now.
