We were standing in line at the Chipman grocery store and there was an old man in front of us hoping someone would offer him a drive. It is -24 today with the wind chill and he had hitchhiked over 20 kms with a knapsack to go into town and get some food and was apparently willing to walk or hitchhike back home too . He had to turn his head sideways and practically lay his face on the debit machine to see the numbers so he could pay which is why he said he cannot drive his bike into town anymore because he cant see well enough to get out of the way of traffic. A f**king bike in this weather and a man who is legally blind having to drive one because no one will offer to give him a lift! Needless to say, we drove him home and took his groceries in for him. Home was a shack and he is almost out of firewood he said. What is wrong with our society that no one in that store offered to drive him home and that he has to live like that? Happy Holidays indeed.
