We were successful at passing the School Funding Reform Act of 2014 #SB16 out of the Senate because of the work of many organizations and individuals, the courage of my colleagues in the Senate and the grassroots support across the State. The House of Representatives is the next step. The Peoria Journal Star looks at the effort and the difficult but necessary conversation regarding school funding in Illinois. We wont stop until the job is done! Generally speaking, we’d join those who have concluded that the way Illinois funds its schools is flawed and in need of reform. The quality of a child’s education should not be based on the accident of geography. Is this the remedy? There’s time to digest it, it’s a provocative debate starter, some of the stances here have defied prediction, and expect this discussion to heat up considerably in an Illinois that could do better, in fairer fashion, by its schoolchildren.
