We were supposed to get a full blown Noreaster today with moderate to locally heavy rain.. Top gusts could have reached Tropical Storm force at the coast.. Vulnerable areas ravaged by Sandy could see some minor additional flooding in addition to beach erosion.. Then one entity put a stop to the Noreaster, the forecast of the pros, and the Norris Report.. That entity is DEREK JETER!! If you wouldve asked me or any other meteorologist if the Yankees could get this evenings game in one piece, we all said doubtful.. However, El Capitan just pointed his bat to the sky and Mother Nature obliged!! Not only did the rain underachieve and eventually stop, but there was actually a peek or two of sun which turned into a decent, crisp fall night.. Just seeing the way that this game played out and how it ended just shows how much of a classy, transcendent player and person Derek Jeter was to baseball and NY; whether youre a Yankee fan or not.. From the early World Series rings, to helping alleviate the 9/11 tragedy by becoming Mr. November, to the Core 4 Championship, to surpassing Gehrig hits wise as a Yankee, to closing the Old Yankee Stadium, to the 3,000 hit being a homerun (done only one other time btw; trivia: name the other player who also did it), and now this!! The highlights, twists, and turns of this game was a microcosm of Derek Jeters first ballot Hall of Fame career.. A Hollywood director could not have scripted this any better!! In his last game in Pinstripes, he ties the game early after 2 Oriole homeruns, bats in the go ahead run, sees the Os tie it up with two more homeruns in the 9th, only to win it like he did in Walk Off Fashion!! We all had it in the back of our heads during the 9th and then it actually happens just as we all thought!! Im sorry but I will take that game over a playoff appearance this year where we in all likelihood just wouldve lost to the Angels or Tigers in 5 games for the ALDS.. The closure was there.. The Captain, El Capitan, Mr. November, the Legendary DEREK JETER saves the day for the Yankees yet again while clinching the 19th Consecutive Winning Season!! Let me tell you, the hairs on my arms did not go down for about 15 minutes!! What does he do at his postgame press conference?? He thanks the fans first and foremost.. he goes to SS to see Yankee Stadium from that angle one last time, then says that this was the last game playing SS as he wanted to do that for the Yankees.. It was his dream to play SS for the Yankees since 4.. He will still DH for the Red Sox series though to respect the rivalry.. The fact that people were paying thousands of dollars to attend a game with the Yankees being mathematically eliminated from the playoffs; that numerous A List celebrities attended this game; that his teammates of the last 19 years were there; that the whole Oriole team stayed on the field to applaud him after their walk off loss; that the whole area was a shitshow to drive around all day show how much of a player, person, and ambassador of the game that Derek Jeter really is.. Truly a Class Act.. The pros were wrong about today.. The Norris Report was wrong about today.. Derek Jeter was absolutely right about today.. Its his night!!
