We were very lucky to receive a talk from Anne Richards on Tuesday 13th January as part of the 30% club ‘Equality across the board series’. She spoke to the students about her own career as well as offering them advice and guidance on their own futures. She is an inspirational woman who has had a very interesting career originating in engineering and forming part of the original team out in Cern working on the Hadron Collider to becoming Chief Investment officer of Aberdeen Asset Management and smashing any perceived glass ceiling in a predominately male industry. The students were inspired and motivated by her talk and one of the bits of advice that stood out to them was the importance of ‘optionality’. She advised not to limit your subject choices but to embrace difference giving you choices down the line but also enabling you to continue to do what you enjoy.
