We who have Bengali as our mother tongue or have been born and brought up in that state ( Tamil speaking, Hindi Speaking or Gujarati speaking ) of Bengal always knew that ours is not the richest state, we could never display opulence like many others do, nor we can top when it comes to areas like risk taking and natural entrepreneur ship. But what we always took pride was of our ethos, of our culture and most importantly the use of our language. Use of foul language in such indiscriminate fashion was never the hallmark of Calcutta or Bengal. Rather we used to punch a hole towards North Indians that they use so much slang in their day to day conversations. With TMC at the helm, that reputation and pride are soiled for ever. Again it started with lumpen section of left ( even late Pramod Dasgupta, the great CPM stalwart said whether police was using condom instead of bullet so that no naxalite is dying ) but there that was still confined to second and third rung mostly. Here it is hitting us right from the top. Bengal cannot take pride in this anymore. In Bankim,Sarat Chandra and Tagores Bengal, its a verbal diarrhea which is at display. A state which has given 2 national anthems, 1 national song and the author of another national anthem got inspired by Tagore and a language which is recognized by Unesco as worlds sweetest language is in a state of unfortunate decay. Very sad indeed !!
