We will remember each other, because we carry time within us—we will remind each other of who we were and how we felt and what it smelled like. We will carry each others haunted lives with each other from now on. I know how to let go of someone’s hand... Reluctantly. And the things we both understand that we will never admit to each other. We meet on the corner and for a while we have nothing better to do than linger in each others shadows, we meet on our way somewhere else: Never better. Never worse. Always Different. I don’t remember what day it was when she called me, it was awhile ago. I choked on everything I wish I would have said when she was here and I had the chance. When she was mine, all mine and we were real people without anything important pulling us anywhere. We were there, until we just— Weren’t anywhere Anymore. That heavy phone, that silence condensed with everything we knew about each other and the weakness of words that cant summarize love or loss. She said that.. Her life was different. I wanted to cry, but I didn’t cry. I was ice cold and indifferent—but I wanted so badly to scream and run through the streets to her house. I wanted to take her hostage and take time hostage so it wouldn’t abandon us. I think I said: Oh. She said: Its not better than what we had, its just… different. Its always just different. Its never better or worse. Just different. Lets be homeless again, And get by on what we have, And find what we don’t have; No matter how far we have to walk to get it— And even if we never get there, Lets just Be like we were and how we are: Before it gets— Different again.
