We will stand with our community in seeking a peaceful resolution to this unfortunate situation that was completely avoidable. Good faith negotiations in formal government to government consultation and accommodation meetings have to be honored by the Province of British Columbia. This agreement made in September 2013 did not contain any fine print. Cultural Heritage Resources in the forest form the very basis of a peoples unique and distinct identity as indigenous peoples. When these resources are destroyed so is the identity of the people impacted. Consent was not given to the Government of BC to continue business as usual while we were being told that the cedar inventory would be provided and an agreed upon cedar management plan developed. From both a cultural and economic basis the continued logging of old growth cedar and the neglect of second and third growth cannot continue without having all information needed to make informed decisions. That is our responsibility to the next generations.
