We won. Thats the most important thing; its what matters in the end. Nothing is more important than winning... kinda. But Im wondering if anyone else watched this game, or tried to because it was hard to watch. Brees threw 3 interceptions. People seem to forget that. Im a fan, but lets get real - we are paying him a TON of money to win games - he nearly threw us out of this one. Our offensive line has been on the attack all year. Its time to rethink Jahri Evans and Ben Grubbs - I understand protecting the quarterback, but we have $15.3 million tied up in 2 guards... no other team has more than $12 million in guards, most arent close to that number, AND theyre not doing such a great job. Strief to me was always a nice backup - never been comfortable with him starting. Still not... Defensively, we are just bad. Thats it, just bad. We got our first interception today, and that was just because a defensive player made a great play, not because we finally got consistent pressure on a QB because we havent done that. Up front we are the same as last year - why do we suck so bad this time around? We dont stop the run, never force a QB to do anything he doesnt want to do and due to that lack of pressure we are getting no interceptions. We create no turnovers. We solo tackle because we are horrible at shedding blocks. I watched a pitiful Tampa team stunt and twist like crazy and get all kinds of pressure on Brees. We can do nothing of the sort. Our team MVP today according to the announcer in the dome was Thomas Morestead. Its not the last time hell be MVP... Why is it that our kickoff specialist/punter is the MVP with all the talent we have on this team? How can a team many predicted to go well into the playoffs be this bad? Especially with few subtractions (only Jenkins and Sproles have been noteworthy away from here) and allegedly with solid additions (Byrd-IR, Cooks) to the squad; but the framework of the team is the same. I love Colston, but I feel like hes dropped/fumbled as many balls this year as hes caught. And our play calling seems dated and stale, especially against a division opponent. We seem to just not run some plays that are often successful. Defensive play calling - well, it seems non-existent, especially compared to Tampas twists and delayed blitzes....... And today, we let a team ranked 30th in offense and 30th in defense play with us, the number one offensive team in the game. Weve made 4 of 5 QBs look like All-Pro players. This is the same Tampa team Atlanta hung 56 points on 2 weeks ago. Lovie Smith might eventually make a difference, but its too soon for them to be really good; especially not good enough to play with a playoff team like the Saints. Yeah, their defensive front 4 are solid - McCoy can play with anyone - but we have 2 guards we pay more than any other player on the team not named Brees who are supposed to be the anti-McCoy, and that just didnt happen. Lets be honest; were it not for Tampas penalties, shooting themselves in the foot at crucial times, we have the record Tampa has at this moment... and we would deserve it................... Thankfully we have a bye week. Injuries mounted up today (along with flags... sheesh). We need a rest, physically, mentally, spiritually. We need to dig down and decide who we are and who we want to be for the rest of the season. Our division stinks, so while right now it seems a silly word, the playoffs arent out of the question. Forget 12 wins, maybe even forget 10 wins. The whole NFL is in a pickle this year; no one is as advertised, save for Jacksonville. Everyone has had moments of good and games of horrible. No one is eliminated yet. Chips neednt be cashed in. The team weve seen for the first 5 weeks cant come back after the bye. They should bury that team and re-emerge as a new team with a better direction. If not... this will be a season to forget.
