We would like to send out a heartfelt “thank you” to all of the amazing volunteers who have contributed to the Luna’s House Medical Care Fund on behalf of Joe in the past few days. Your tireless devotion to the animals we all serve is truly extraordinary. Joe is a dashing German Shepard boy who has been at Luna’s House for about seven months. Joe came from a terrible situation and has been rehabilitated, with the help of Dr. Keith Gold of Chadwell Animal Hospital, by the phenomenal volunteers who work with him each day. Joe is currently experiencing severe gastrointestinal inflammation and, after X-rays and bloodwork, has been placed on four different medications to treat his symptoms and make him more comfortable. Volunteers will be taking Joe back in to Chadwell for a re-check and additional diagnostics tomorrow, and he will undoubtedly be in for at least a couple of weeks of intensive recovery. You can read more about Joe’s history at his Petfinder page: https://petfinder/petdetail/28071790 The Luna’s House Medical Care Fund provides ongoing medical care for all of our rescue animals, including spay and neuter surgeries, vaccinations, diagnostic testing, medications, and more. In all, Luna’s House serves an average of 80-90 companion animals of various species—from dogs and cats to rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, birds, reptiles, and more—at any given time. The majority of the animals Luna’s House takes in to our adoption programs are not altered or up-to-date on vaccinations or routine testing, and many need treatment beyond basic care. All Luna’s House animals are spayed/neutered and vaccinated (as appropriate by species) shortly after intake and prior to being made available for adoption. All dogs are tested for Heartworm and all cats for Feline Leukemia and FIV; flea and tick treatment, Heartworm preventative, dewormer, and other necessary medications and treatments are provided to Luna’s House animals, as appropriate by species. For many of our charges, like the handsome Joe, additional diagnostics (X-Rays, bloodwork), surgical intervention, or medications are necessary and are provided. Donating to the Luna’s House Medical Care Fund makes an extraordinary impact on our work and makes a compassionate difference for our animals by assuring they receive the veterinary care they need and deserve. Medical care for the animals we serve is the largest expense for our rescue programs, and one of our most critical funding needs. Your donation goes such a long way to helping animals in need—animals like Joe, who will continue to get the best care possible. You can contribute to the Luna’s House Medical Care Fund online via PayPal at lunashouse.org/donate.html. Please specify “Medical Care Fund” in the notes section so that we are sure to allocate your donation toward veterinary services. (Please note that donations made to the Medical Care Fund on a specific animal’s behalf may be applied to the general Medical Care Fund if donations toward a particular animal’s care exceed the veterinary expenses for that animal.) You can also contact Chadwell Animal Hospital, the amazing provider of the vast majority of the medical care for the animals of Luna’s House, at (443) 512-8338 to make a donation directly to the Luna’s House veterinary account via credit card, or by cash or check in person. Thank you so much for your past, current, and future support. Your donations make it possible for Luna’s House to help animals in need, like our buddy Joe.
