Weather Forecast for KENT – MONDAY 12th January 15. As most of you are probably aware by now, it does look like being a busy few days for us amateur meteorologists (and pros, too, of course) when it comes to forecasting, so Ill see if I can break this week down into as bite size chunks even estate agents can understand. SYNOPSIS: We continue to be under a westerly-type air stream that has a long fetch in from the Atlantic, then a frontal system will move in from the west tonight thus putting us in an unstable showery-type westerly airstream tomorrow. A powerful deepening Atlantic depression system complete with active fronts is expected to pass close by the UK as we go through the middle part of the week. TODAY . . . In a nutshell, it will be cloudy and damp with occasional drizzle all day. The cloud base may often be low enough to shroud high ground as hill fog and it will also be windy all day. Perhaps a lucky select few of us along the South Kent coast may actually get to see a chink of brightness at around the middle part of the day, try not to miss it by blinking. Although temperatures will still be on the mild side at 10 C to 11 C (50 F to 52 F), the strong south westerly wind will make it feel quite cold and fresh anyway. A bit of a meh start to the week, overall. TONIGHT . . . We can expect a cloudy, windy and wet night as the rain become more moderate and persistent in nature, especially more so in the small hours. Low cloud will often shroud high ground as hill fog. It will continue to be very windy with gales over the usual exposed coastal and hilly areas. All that will keep it mild with temperatures not falling any lower than 11 C (52 F). TOMORROW (Tuesday) . . . A wet and miserable morning with thick cloud, rain and strong winds. Hopefully we may get to see something of an improvement with slowly clearing skies along with the wind easing back as we wear on into the afternoon and into the night but it does look like showers may continue to pester southern coastal areas. Becoming cooler after a mild start. WEDNESDAY . . . Generally a bright n breezy day with brief sunny spells and showers. Some of those showers may take on something of a wintry flavour over high ground at times. WEDNESDAY NIGHT (advanced warning of severe gales and heavy rain) . . . And this is when the fun start as things are going to get wet n wild across our county with heavy rain and gale force winds during the night, especially in the small hours (again, just what IS it with the strongest winds always occurring in the middle of the night?!). We may have to expect some disruptions and delays to travel come the morning as a result. THURSDAY . . . As the general cloud, squally rain and the worst of the gales clear away in the morning, that will then lead to a day of sunny spells and frequent showers. However it will stay very windy and thus feel cold in it. FRIDAY . . . Rather cloudy with some patchy rain or sleet on Friday, but the wind should be easing off a bit. WEEKEND . . Hopefully, it should be generally dry with more in the way of bright spells and lighter wind. However, itll be turning colder with frost and ice becoming a regular thing at night time and first thing in the morning. And there you have it, quite a mixed week overall.
