Weather Forecast for KENT – THURSDAY 8th January 14. *** Advisory Note *** Heavy rain this morning, risk of standing water on roads. SYNOPSIS: A frontal system will pass over us this morning before clearing away eastwards by the end of the day – and then another one associated with a deepening low pressure system move in from the Atlantic tonight. TODAY . . . This morning will go along on a very dull and wet note with moderate to locally heavy and persistent rain, so there will be some standing water on roads by the middle part of the day as a result. Also the cloud base will be low enough to shroud high ground as hill fog so poor visibility will also be an issue for drivers. It wont be until at least the early part of the afternoon (around 1 pm) will all the general cloud and rain finally give way to brightening skies, hopefully leading to a half decent coloured-type sunset and a clear evening – at least before cloud start to increase in from the west later on tonight. Temperatures on the mild side at 8 C to 10 C (46 F to 50 F) under a moderate to fresh south west breeze, but the wind should ease off temporarily by the afternoon. TONIGHT . . . Becoming cloudy and damp again with patchy light rain (shouldnt be as much as this morning) and the cloud base will fall low enough to shroud high ground as hill fog. Winds will also strengthen to become strong to locally near-gale force south. However, it will be a very mild night with temperatures not falling any lower than 10 C (50 F). TOMORROW (Friday) . . . Rather cloudy for most of the time but hopefully it should stay largely rain-free. Perhaps a lucky select few of us may catch an odd glimpse of brightness every now and then. However, what you will notice is how it will feel very mild at 12 C to 14 C (54 F to 57 F) despite the brisk wind. The wind is expected to pick up to become strong to locally gale force again as we go into the night. WEEKEND and NEXT WEEK . . . Ill just keep it simple and say that it does look set to be changeable and unsettled for the next few days. Itll also be often windy with the risk of gales never being far away. Temperatures close to average values for most of the time. Cant be bothered trying to look out for any chance of proper wintry weather coming our way, even though the trend for colder weather from the 18th onwards is still there but that is a very long way off in forecasting terms and thus said in low confidence.
