Weather Forecast for KENT – TUESDAY 13th January 15. SYNOPSIS: The slow moving “wavering” frontal system responsible for the rain and strong wind last night and at dawnbreak will be clearing away onto the near Continent this morning thus putting us back into a westerly airsteam for the rest of the day and into tonight. Then tomorrow, its all eyes on a rapidly developing depression system forming over the Atlantic. TODAY . . . The general cloud cover, strong wind and persistent rain should all clear away by around 10 am leading to bright spells and partial cloud cover by noon time and into the first half of the afternoon. Then there is a risk of showers tending to break out by around tea time onwards and there is a chance that some of those could even take on a wintry flavour over high ground. However, the one thing you will appreciate about today is how we will have a break from that annoying in-your-face gale force wind we seem to have had since time began as it become a moderate westerly. It will also be a little cooler than of late at 7 C to 9 C (45 F to 48 F). TONIGHT . . . While itll be a night of clear breaks and partial cloud cover over most of our county, it does look like showers will continue to pepper the South Coast of our county under a moderate westerly breeze, more especially this evening and again in the early hours. It is possible that some of those showers may take on something of a wintry flavour with some sleet or even a little snow mixed in it, but I doubt itll be good enough to settle. Quite a chilly night at 2 C to 4 C (36 F to 39 F), that may enable a frost to set in over North and West Kent which has the best of the clear breaks. TOMORROW (Wednesday) . . . Any wintry-type showers still about at dawnbreak will quickly die away in the morning to lead to a day of sunny spells and varied cloud amounts. A better day all around, even though itll be feeling cool and fresh under a brisk westerly breeze. And then Im afraid things will rapidly go downhill by Wednesday night/early hours of Thursday morning with winds increasing to as southerly gale force and heavy rain all quickly sweeping in from the Atlantic. Expect some travel disruptions and delays as the wind may touch severe gale force for a time by dawnbreak time. THURSDAY . . . The general cloud, strong wind and heavy rain should all clear away in the morning to lead to a day of sunny spells and showers but it is expected to remain quite windy for the rest of the day anyway. FRIDAY, WEEKEND and NEXT WEEK . . . Becoming more settled with lighter winds. Therell be some sunshine but itll be turning colder with a risk of some wintry showers, along with frost and fog becoming a regular occurrence by night time. There are hints of our weather taking on a more wintry note as we go into next week but thats me getting ahead of myself at this point. At least it does look like well get to have a break from all this rough and wet stuff for a while anyway.
