Weather Forecast for KENT – WEDNESDAY 14th January 15. We continue to be under a westerly airstream today, then all eyes will be on a rapidly deepening Atlantic depression system set to pass close by to the UK and throwing active fronts our way in the next 24 hours. TODAY . . . Any rain or sleet showers that are still knocking around at dawnbreak will quickly die away this morning to lead to sunny spells and varied cloud amounts for the rest of the day. Generally not at all a bad day today, however cloud will quickly thicken up in from the west, along with freshening winds as we go into the latter half of the afternoon but the cloud wont be thick enough to produce rain until quite late in the evening. Temperatures sticking close to average values at 5 C to 7 C (41 F to 45 F) under a brisk westerly breeze, which will become fresh to strong south west by the end of the day. TONIGHT . . . I think by now yall have a good idea on what conditions are going to be like tonight. Indeed we can all expect a “wet n wild” night with heavy rain and strong gale force southerly winds. There will be some disruptions to travel come dawnbreak as a result. If you are planning on writing a book that begins with the words “It was a dark and stormy night . . . “, tonight will be the best night to do it. All this will make it very mild at 10 C (50 F), warmer than during the day! TOMORROW (Thursday) . . . The general thick cloud, heavy rain and gale force winds should all quickly give way to brightening skies by the middle part of the morning, thus leading to sunny/clear breaks and blustery showers in a strong west wind for the rest of the day. Itll also become cooler and fresher after a mild start. FRIDAY & WEEKEND . . . Bright spells and showers, perhaps wintry over high ground. Becoming colder with frost and ice getting to be a regular occurrence by night time and in the morning should skies stay clear for long enough. But at least winds are expected to be lighter. NEXT WEEK . . . Generally rather cold and cloudy with some rain and sleet with a chance of some snow over high ground. I might find myself using the word “marginal” quite often. But at least it does look like the Atlantic Storm Machine will be turned off for a while, thus causing our winds to become slacker and more variable in direction.
