Weather Report from Eskeys Ridge.... I slept with the window open and woke to the sound of a gentle rain. I lay in bed for a few minutes just listening - - it sounded like springtime. When I passed the window on the way down to start the coffee, I pulled it down because it was blowing in through the curtains. Out on the porch, the air had been washed clean and I stood for a few minutes listening to the sounds of morning. How are you doing this morning, Missy? I almost jumped out of my hide! I wish youd stop sneaking up on me! I hollered as I turned to face the Old Man. There he stood on the other end of the porch with his threadbare suit on and his derby hat pulled low around his ears. His icy blue eyes twinkled below bushy white brows, Didnt mean to startle you. Just wanted to stop in this morning to chat about where Ive been and to let you know Im back for a spell. I held my hand up to stop his talk. Im not so sure I want to hear about your being back, I said, my hand itching to pick up one of my dry sticks of good hickory wood and have a little dance across the porch. He gave such a happy chuckle and then did a flat foot shuffle toward me across the floor as though hed read my mind minus the slab of stove wood, that I just had to smile. What are you going to be up to, Old Man? He stopped and shook back his clothes and hooked his thumbs through the top button holes of his vest... A little bit of this and that. Rain and snow, coolish and coldish... I waved my hand at him as I opened the door to come back in the little house that Jim built. Well, let er come. Im ready. Now hes outside humming Winter Wonderland. I hope I didnt mess up! Love out to all my dearest dears on this damp winter morning. Watch out for the Old Man... xoxo SK
