Weather Update Fort Kent, Maine & Vicinity 7:30 AM ET | Saturday, December 6, 2014 A warming trend is in process this morning as temperatures have climbed from a low of 11°F at midnight to 17°F at the present time. this is in association with high pressure which has moved east of the state allowing southerly flow to set up behind the departing ridge. Temperatures are expected to climb to near 30°F in Fort Kent today. Light snow is expected as the front approaches and an area of low pressure moves south to north along the boundary. Around 1 inch of new snow is anticipated (around 0.10 inch liquid equivalent). Tonight, temperatures plummet downwards towards the zero degree mark as Arctic air surges back into the region with clearing skies and very cold conditions--Fort Kent will reach a low around 2°F. Light southerly winds this morning will swing around to the northwest after the front crosses. Sunday, December 7, 2014 Sunday will be clear and very cold with a high in Fort Kent only in the single digits--around 7° above as northwest winds in the 10-15 mph range pushing wind chills towards -20°F at times. A strong ridge of high pressure (barometric pressures in the 1045 millibar range) will move across the region Sunday into Monday. Overnight, clear skies and the coldest temperatures of the season so far are expected as Fort Kent residents see a low around -16°F. Allagash, Dickey, Saint Francis, and Estcourt Station could see readings in the -20°F range Sunday night. Further Ahead Cold temperatures persist Monday with clear to partly cloudy skies expected. Highs in the teens and lows in the single digits are anticipated. A coastal low pressure system is shown developing along the Middle Atlantic coast on longer range models which is expected to move north to the Downeast coast and bring precipitation to the Valley Tuesday evening and Wednesday. Presently, snow is expected Tuesday night and Wednesday, though much depends on the lows track and temperatures across the state.
