Weather Update Fort Kent, Maine & Vicinity 9:00 am ET | Sunday, November 30, 2014 ***Special Weather Statement is in effect until November 30, 12:00 PM EST*** Snow and some freezing rain/drizzle may cause slick spots on area roads Todays Weather Light snow has overspread the region ahead of a warm front being lifted across the region from a low pressure near James Bay in Canada. Accumulations of new snow are anticipated to be 2 inches or less in the Valley with a trace of ice accumulation, if any occurs. Temperatures will rise in Fort Kent today to near 37° as the region will be in the warm sector of the approaching frontal system. Precipitation totals between 1/10 and 1/4 inch are presently anticipated. Tonight, drizzle, rain showers, and fog are expected as a strong cold front approaches the Valley. Thanks to cloud cover and southerly flow, temperatures will only fall into the lower 30s with Fort Kent near 32°. South winds in the 9-12 mph range can be expected. Winds shift to the northwest after frontal passage Monday morning. Tomorrows Weather Monday, December 1, 2014 A strong cold front pushes across the region followed by a strong ridge of high pressure extending from Texas to Québec that will usher in clearing skies and much colder temperatures. Daytime highs will be early with Fort Kent at about 35° around 7 am with temperatures declining through the day to a low, under mostly clear and calm skies Monday night, near -2°F in Fort Kent (yes, that is a minus sign). Northwest winds in the 9-10 mph range will push wind chill values to as cold as -15°F. Looking Ahead Mostly clear and cold conditions are expected Tuesday with a high in Fort Kent only around 10°F above. Tuesday nights low will be slightly warmer at about 4° as skies become increasingly cloudy ahead of the next system. This system will be similar to the current one with temperatures rising Wednesday producing a wintery mix that changes to rain before a sharp cold front crosses the region plunging the Valley back into the deep freeze once again. Highs Wednesday peak in the upper 30s with Thursday seeing temperatures in the middle 20s before they decline to near 0°F by Friday morning.
