Weather Update for Fort Kent, Maine & Vicinity 7:10 AM | Friday, October 17, 2014 Since midnight, the weather station has recorded 0.24 inches of rain with a total of 0.31 inches in the last 24-hours. This morning will see rain, heavy at times, as an occluded front moves across the region. This system is also receiving moisture being transported from Hurricane Gonzalo (as the satellite image below clearly displays). Around 1/2 to 3/4 inches of additional rainfall is expected before the front clears the region this afternoon. Southeast winds in the range of 9-22 mph will become Southwesterly later. Wind gusts to 25 mph are possible as a low-level jet moves across the region with the front. Once the front passes through, mostly cloudy conditions with lingering showers are expected this evening and overnight as an upper-level low moves into the Canadian Maritimes. Todays high will be near 65° with a low around 49°. Tomorrows Weather--Saturday, October 18, 2014 Mostly cloudy skies are expected as the upper-low slowly drifts towards Labrador/Newfoundland. A cold front is set to cross the region later in the day with another round of shower activity. Around 0.25 to 0.50 inches of additional rainfall may occur with this system. Saturdays high will be around 60° with nighttime temperatures falling to about 40°. Southwest winds become northwest around 9-11 mph. Further Ahead Sunday sees a chance of rain through the day with between 1/10 and 1/4 inches of precipitation by evening. Mostly cloudy conditions are anticipated overnight into Monday. Sundays high will be around 45° with an overnight low around 32°. High pressure builds in Monday and Tuesday with mostly cloudy conditions Monday giving way to partly cloudy conditions Tuesday and Wednesday. Clouds build back up later Wednesday as a low pressure system moves from the Cape Cod region towards the Gulf of Maine bringing a chance for showers. Mondays high will be around 45° with a low in the upper 20s. Tuesday sees highs in the upper 40s and lows in the lower 30s. With a chance for shower activity, Wednesday and Thursday see highs in the lower 50s with a low Wednesday night in the mid-30s. Tropical Weather Category 4 Hurricane Gonzalo will pass near Bermuda bringing damaging winds and dangerous storm surge to the islands. After 24 hours, a steady increase in south-southwesterly vertical wind shear and sharply lower sea surface temperatures should contribute to a markedly faster weakening. Gonzalo is likely to transition into a post-tropical cyclone by 48 hours and become extratropical in 60-72 hours, passing south of Newfoundland early Sunday as it curves across the North Atlantic.
