Weather by Rucker Small tornadoes touched down yesterday (Sunday) in Northeast Tennessee near Kingsport & Speedwell and near Wolcott, Connecticutt, but no major damage or injuries reported. Ten homes & a grocery store were destroyed in Speedwell. The tornadoes were only EF-0 to EF-1 strengths, according to the National Weather Services enhanced Fujita scale, named after Dr. Theodore Fujita who had extensively studied tornadoes and their damage-related wind fury in the 1970s. Today... severe thunderstorms with high winds, hail & a possible isolated tornado or two are probable to develop late this afternoon & early evening across the deep South & the southeast Atlantic coast from southern Alabama across North Florida, South Georgia into South Carolina & coastal eastern North Carolina ahead of a stronger than normal Cool Front moving southeastward. Behind this Front, another cooler than normal air mass will bring very nice low humidity and high temperatures in the 60s around the Great Lakes to 70s Ohio Valley & 80s into the mid-South today into tomorrow & Wednesday, warming up again Thursday & into the weekend. A new tropical disturbance has developed in the far eastern Atlantic moving westward & may become the seasons 2nd tropical cyclone later this week as it heads toward the Caribbean nearing the weekend. Remember... the absolute safest place to be for you & your family when a tornado or hurricane is approaching is in a storm shelter (safe room).
