Weather is looking terrible, better off hitting up the lake in some shelter. Fishing Report Lake Macquarie The lake is firing for flathead at the moment and soft plastics are taking the majority of the fish. They seem to be sitting in about 6-8 meters and there are plenty of plate sized fish in the mix. Once you start getting a couple keep working the same area, I found a nice patch of them near wangi in a trench dropping from 5 to 6 meters and they seemed to like the squidgy drop bear shad. Jew have slowed up a bit but fish this time of year are usually less common but bigger, the pulbah deep whole, belmont and the tank traps are spots worth soaking a live bait. A reef anchor is also a good idea for the traps as a few sand anchors have been lost their in the past. The salmon are still in big numbers in the channel, salts bay and moon island, their have also been a few entering the lake which provides some fun on an otherwise slow fishing day. Floating pillies works well for the bait fishos. Bream are biting all throughout the lake with night time producing better results for some the average size is around 30cm, prawn baits are catching plenty of fish. Lucys wall is a good spot for the land based fishos to get into the action. On the lure side of things I picked up a few nice bream last week using small metal blades and long pauses in the retreive. Newcastle Offshore there are heaps of flathead on the usual gravel marks, dumping ground and reef edges. North reef is still holding a few rat kings which will provide for some fun and a few pan size have also shown up recently. Floating baits with small sinkers or unweighted will produce more fish and a lot less reef rubbish. Stockton Beach Now is the time to hit Stockton beach for Jew, deeper holes are producing some very nice fish and anglers who take the time to collect quality bait are catching the majority of the fish. As always I always say it is critical to fish the tides an hour before and after the high tide is my favourite time. Port Stephens The luderick are still firing on the co-op break wall and this should continue for a while yet, bream are coming from the same area with lightly weighted prawn baits working well. A few bream are also being caught from the racks and salamander wreck. Drummer are hanging in the washes and there are a few smaller fish in the mix but still plenty of legals around. Peeled prawn baits work well and are easy to source but can produce some unwanted bycatch.
