Weather story for the next 24 hours the wind! Gusts well above 60 in the gorge and topping 45 in the metro area. Still wont be surprised it gusts top 70-80 mph around Crown Point. Ive been looking at what comes next and thats precipitation. Latest computer models keep pushing the timeline back. Now looking at Thursday morning. Timing looks between 4 and 8 AM. (Sorry Rhonda) At the same time the precipitation arrives forecast models show the air temperature at 4,000 feet over Portland, above 32degrees. Why is that important? Because that means there is only skinny layer of cold air for freezing precipitation to occur in. So while I cant rule out a chance of freezing rain if it does occur it will be short lived and happen only mainly in locations near the gorge. To drill it down even closer to home, areas near I-205 and east. If youre in The Gorge or Hood River Valley youll be stuck with freezing rain, snow or sleet much of the day Thursday.
