Weather update: A tropical disturbance slowly consolidating southeast of Guam is expected to bring rain and wind in the next two days. According to the National Weather Service Tiyan, Guam Office, said about 3 to 5 inches of rain and winds of 15 to 25 miles per hour and gusts up to 35 miles per hour are possible in the next two days. The disturbance, which as of 1 p.m. was located near 11 degrees north and 146 degrees east. That’s about 215 miles south-southeast of Guam. It is the subject of a tropical cyclone formation alert from the Joint Typhoon Warning Center. The center of the disturbance is ill-defined. However, a mid-level circulation could help organize the disturbance in the low levels. The tropical disturbance is expected to move slowly northward tonight then turn northwest to pass near or just to the west of the Marianas. The exact distance that it passes toward the west will have a substantial impact on the amount of rain expected on Guam and the Mariana Islands. Officials said residents planning on outdoor activities tomorrow and Tuesday, watch out for further statements from the weather service office and Homeland Security, the statement notes. It adds that residents should be ready to ensure homes and properties are protected if a watch or warning is issued.
