Weather was generally fine over southern China yesterday. Locally, it was sunny yesterday and dry during the day. The maximum temperature recorded at the Observatory was 22.8 degrees in the afternoon, the warmest Lunar New Years Day since 2007. The weather will be still mild during the rest of the Lunar New Year holidays. Under the influence of the intense northeast monsoon midweek next week, winds will strengthen from the east with a few rain patches over the south China coast. Besides, the area of low pressure to the east of the Philippines intensified into a tropical storm gradually yesterday, and was named Kajiki. At 11 p.m. last night, Kajiki was centred about 700 kilometres southeast of Manila. It is forecast to move west at about 35 kilometres per hour across the southern part of the Philippines. Weather forecast for Hong Kong (Saturday, 1 Feb 2014) Mainly fine apart from relatively low visibility in some areas. Cloudy periods in the morning and at night. Temperatures will range between 18 and 23 degrees. Light to moderate easterly winds. Outlook : Mainly fine and mild during the rest of the Lunar New Year holidays.
