Wed, Jan 14, 2015 A CYCLONE WARNING CLASS II IS IN FORCE IN MAURITIUS. A CYCLONE WARNING CLASS II IS IN FORCE IN MAURITIUS. Twelth cyclone bulletin for Mauritius issued at 1010 hours on Wednesday 14 January 2015. Latest satellite imagery and observations from St Brandon indicate that intense tropical cyclone BANSI has weakened and is now a tropical cyclone. At 10h00, tropical cyclone BANSI was centered in latitude 17.5 degrees South and longitude 58.7 degrees East, that is at about 300 kilometers to the North North East of Mauritius. BANSI continues to move in an Easterly direction at about 06 km/h. There are indications that BANSI will recurve towards the South East in the course of the day. Furthermore, taking into consideration its position and intensity the risk of experiencing cyclonic winds still exists over Mauritius. A CYCLONE WARNING CLASS II REMAINS IN FORCE IN MAURITIUS. The public is advised to maintain all necessary precautions. Our region remains under the influence of active clouds bands associated with BANSI. The weather will remain cloudy to overcast over the whole island with intermittent showers and isolated thunderstorms. The showers will be moderate to heavy at times in places thereby causing water accumulation and flooding of river banks and other water courses. The public is advised to stay away from these places. There will be fog patches in certain places that will reduce the visibility. Road users are advised to be extremely cautious. Wind will blow from the South East at a speed of 40 to 50 km/h with gusts reaching 90 to 100 km/h in places. Sea will remain very rough with swells of the order of 5 to 7 metres, breaking mainly on the North Western, Northern and Eastern coasts. The public is strongly advised not to venture at sea.
