Wedding Advice #25: If photography is very important to you and you are getting married in a church, please ask the officiant when booking about rules. Its very hard to arrive at a church ceremony to photograph a beautiful couples ceremony only to be told NO photos allowed. Really, nothing at all during the ceremony and this is usually the first time the bride is hearing of it. The amount of hostility, excuses and aggression we (as photographers) have encountered with one particular group of churches is astounding. The only reason weve ever been given is You cannot take photographs because it is an act of worship. While Im not bashing churches or religion in any way and totally understand every business has rules, I want couples to be aware when they are booking their wedding that they may not be allowed to have photos taken during their ceremony. Ive had to console many a distraught bride over this and it is NOT ever fun and puts a damper on the rest of the day. So all Im asking/advising is BE AWARE when booking, ask questions and dont be afraid to ask why.
