Wednesday 28th Aug, 2013. AMAZING GIFT Revelation 22:1-21 “The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s people”. (Revelations 22:21). The Hymn “Amazing Grace” written by John Newton, sends chills to my body each time it is being sung especially in its original tune with a tempo that let’s one digest the lyrics of the song. I have also noticed that each time it is sung at a funeral; the entire place becomes sober with many shedding tears. Yet after the funeral, people are able to return to normal work activity, some even go back into places of unrighteous acts and partake in unrighteousness. Today’s scripture points out the mercy of God, the pull of grace not just once but at all times, as it brings joy after weeping and wraps up Gods children with hope for tomorrow. “Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city” (Rev 22:14). Observe, in Revelations 5:1-14, how John described his experience before the throne of Grace. There was weeping because no one was found worthy to open the scroll or look inside it until the Lion of the tribe of Judah (Jesus) manifested his presence. Thus John’s eyes now could see the work of salvation accomplished as the Lamb who was slain for our sins, stood in the center of the throne. “Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that they may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need” (Hebrews 4:16). Today’s scripture gives us a clear picture of why we can approach God’s throne for mercy. Jesus, the lamb that was slain is the one and only God who can sympathize with us, so He made a way through His amazing grace, for us to gain access to the Father. Peter calls our attention to grow in grace, see 2 Peter 3:17-18 because it is only this amazing grace that can keep us in tune with the one who promised us eternal freedom. Where there is no grace, there will be in confusion and conflict. So we read John’s last chapter of Revelation 22; declaring the grace of Jesus to come be with God’s people. Permit me at this point to ask three thought provoking questions. Are you born again? Washed and cleansed by the precious blood of the LAMB? Have you experienced the power of Grace at work in your daily life? How many people have you been able to extend this grace to? For by grace we have been saved, it is the special gift of God and not of works. The one who saved us also calls us into a life of service that grace may spread to others through us. If Jesus had refused taking the scroll and opening it, we would remain condemned, but He gave Himself so that His grace is transferred to all who chose to follow Him. What would you do differently to grow in this special gift? Prayer: Amazing grace found me and won me for eternity, what a gracious God. Thank you for choosing me to be a part of the instruments that will share grace in Jesus name. Amen! For further study, kindly read: Revelation 5:1-14 and 1 Peter 3:17-18.
