Wednesday 30th July Koala Room Update: We would like to - TopicsExpress

Wednesday 30th July Koala Room Update: We would like to welcome our new special friend Lexi to our Koala room. She has settled in wonderfully and has enjoyed exploring her new environment and meeting new friends. She had lots of fun showing us how she can pull herself up onto objects and enjoyed walking along with the walker. This morning during inside activities the children had the opportunity to be engaged in two different activities. Our educators set up painting, where the children could challenge their fine motor skills by using paint brushes and their fingers to paint their very own individual painting. Later on the children were engaged in a goop experience. Jackie added corn flour and water to the table and the children loved running their fingers through it and squishing it in their hands. Our Koala friends have shown much interest today in musical instruments as a tent was set up outside with various instruments for the children to use. Aria, Samara and Lexi all enjoyed playing with the mini drums and triangles. We will continue to introduce more music into the children routine to develop their creativity and social skills. Possum Room Update: This morning the children used their fine motor skills along with the chunky chalk to draw on the chalk boards. Lachlan, Sienna and Jaanavhi used their left and right hands to create their pictures before using the dusters to rub it off. Julia spent time with the children reading books and singing songs before sending the children in to wash their hands, Tallon, Hazel, Oliver, BB and Charlie watched as Julia pointed to the picture, colours and characters. Outside Sam used the pop up tent as a group area for musical instruments. Some of the babies joined in as our Possums manipulated the instruments with cause & effect, trial and error using the symbols, triangles, drums and xylophones to make music. In the sandpit Donna, Zoe, Oliver cooked up a storm using the pots and pans and our plastic table. The children enjoyed using the table to put their bowls of food on and pretend to eat. The children have been following on and extending their cooking interests with enthusiasm over the past few weeks. Bilby Room Update: Today Grace held a small group, using buckets with different coloured labels for the children to identify the colour of the item and put it into the correct bucket. Grace went around the circle asking each child to take out an item from the bucket, identify the colour and what is was. Murphy picked out Broccoli and says to Grace “That is not a fruit, it is a vegetable.” Leila, Sienna and Sallie enjoyed the home corner this morning, going shopping for fruit and vegetables and putting them into their baskets. Leila says “Look Kinley, I got all purple ones in my purple basket.” Following on from our experimentation with colours theme, today for craft we used green, purple and orange paint then placed glad wrap over the top and scrunched it up to make different patterns and effects with the paint. Sallie said “I want mine to be all yellow” Murphy and Tyler created a ‘construction site’ this morning and Murphy had safety as a priority as he put his hard hat on before he started working. Platypus Room Update: Today in the Platypus room the children used their sense of touch when it came to craft, they used their index finger to dip into different colours of paint then move their finger on a large window to create different patterns, this was also a great social experience as the children could see each other though the window on the other side, Kiana and Marile started to make faces at each other as they painted. After the patterns were drawn Mel helped place a piece of yellow paper over their patterns to capture the creation and keep. Outside with a small group Tony had the children flying around the playground pretending to be large dragons; the children had to find food and a nest while flying through the air. In the sandpit Mel helped Shanay, Marlie and Megen come up with some crazy cupcakes names and flavours for our little outdoor shop. Kangaroo Room Update: Our connection to nature continues with children once again showing a keen interest in being part of any gardening that we do. We had many helpers today as we decided to move some plants, children gathered shovels and enthusiastically helped to empty the pots and aerate the soil, discarding any old roots and weeds from the dirt. We did recognise some herbs that were planted last season and they relocated them. We then had to dig out the Lilly Pillies and put them in the pots, our Kangaroo friends helping every step of the way. On the other side of the yard Micheal was busy putting bricks around our new ‘Crape Myrtle’, here too our friends were keen to help, moving bricks and sand to make a lovely circle. Children can now nurture the tree so we can see it grow big and strong. Emu Room Update: Last Wednesday a small group of children enjoyed going on a letter hunt around the Centre. We took a blank piece of paper and the children wrote down each of the letters they saw – Alec wrote out Michelle’s number plate. After a discussion with one of the families today we focused on the difference between little and big letters. The children were given a piece of paper that had the alphabet in lower case letters in one table and the alphabet in upper case letters in a table below. We set off in search of these letters, the children were told they could tick, cross, colour, circle or draw around each of the letters as we found them - Stephanie chose to cross, Lucas and Angus chose to tick and Alec decided to colour. Jenna took three different groups at different times throughout the day. The first group were proud of all of the letters they found and set the challenge for the other two groups to find more than them. They also found that there is a sign on the road directly out the front door. Ryan was able to tell the Emu children that this sign said ‘No Parking’ he went on to tell the children that there is also a sign that says no stopping and it also means that no cars are allowed to park where the sign is. The second group were able to identify that each of the number plates had letters and numbers on them, more importantly all of the letters were capital letters. This simple activity is an easy one that you can repeat at home to continue to raise awareness of letters, their names, sounds and whether they are upper or lower case letters. We have sent the activity sheet home for you to have a look at. If you would like a blank copy don’t hesitate to ask as we are more than happy to provide you with a copy.
