Wednesday, August 6, 2014 Sea Day 5 After sea day 5, the temperature of the water was beginning to show a pattern. As winter was coming to an end (May to July), the temperature steadily began to drop until my last sea day. It is notable to mention that only juvenile males were observed on this day. This could likely be due to the fact that smaller individuals are more sensitive to quick water temperature decreases or to cooler, upwelled water, Towner 2013. Beginning with my second sea day (first day as a volunteer), I allowed one of the volunteers to convince me into not wearing a wetsuit in the water. The thought of being considered a wimp, along with the thought of taking 15 minutes to even get the wetsuit on, made my decision clear- no wetsuit for me. I want you to imagine how I felt on this particular sea day, sea day number 5, with no wetsuit, in very, VERY cold water.... Well if you guessed that I felt nothing- you guessed right. I felt nothing because I was numb.
