Wednesday, December 10, 2014 “…brings forth out of his treasure things both old and new” –Matthew 12:35 Good Morning Heavenly Father, Family & Friends!! (*) Yesterday’s Discovered Treasure for Today: “But the fruit of the Spirit is . . . self-control. . .” Galatians 5:22 (*) Today’s Application: As Christ-followers we have been given through God’s Holy Spirit the power and ability to control our outward behavior. We are to be self-controlled or self-disciplined in our outer manifestations of an obedient life before God Himself. We are not to be found involved in Illegal or immoral activities causing disappointment and despair in our personal lives as well as the lives of our family and friends. Even in the areas of legitimacy, the Word of God says, “All things are legitimate [permissible—and we are free to do anything we please], but not all things are helpful (expedient, profitable, and wholesome). All things are legitimate, but not all things are constructive [to character] and edifying [to spiritual life]. Let no one then seek his own good and advantage and profit, but [rather] each one of the other [let him seek the welfare of his neighbor]” (I Corinthians 10:23-24 Amplified Bible). When we are not self-disciplined we then fall prey to being disciplined by external rules and powers set forth by secular governments and principalities that now rule and govern our lives. There was a day in the history of America when Judeo-Christian ethics and morals were commonly accepted and practiced. Unfortunately at this time America seems bent on presenting herself as a nation that lives in a Post-Christian era as these founding ethics and morals are no longer accepted and practiced by the general public. To whatever degree one would accept, it is quite obvious that we here in American are less self-disciplined today than in the past. As a result additional rules, regulations and reinforcement are being exerted and more resistance to their demands are being challenged and demonstrated against. The definition of deviant behavior is in the process of being redefined as to how it is to be approached, enforced and dealt with by authorities in place to harness such destructible activity. We find ourselves in a saddened condition when folk exchange self-discipline for an overwhelming burden of rules and reinforcement in order to maintain a stable society. How much better it is when we respect other people’s values, tradition and property, as was present more so and to a much greater extent in the earlier days of our nation. Short of a great revisit and revitalization of those founding principles that made our nation unique and very formable among other nations, we will be prisoners behind protective fences and unwanted laws, rules and policies that many times limit the godly morals once established and followed. 0:-/
