Wednesday, July 9 2014 Result: Dakota City - 2nd Three Valleys x West Dakota / Bay Colt 14/4/11 Form: 2 Pascal Bary / Christophe Soumillon 11:30 - Chantilly - Maiden - 9f A splendid start to his career from Dakota City this morning. The son of Three Valleys had more in front than behind turning in but he made good late ground, despite running around a bit under pressure, which was understandable, and was doing all his beat work late and he would almost certainly have got up in another couple of strides; hell win his maiden. Result: Procurement - 6th Zamindar x Acquisition / Bay Filly 27/1/11 Form: 6 Criquette Head-Maarek / Thierry Thulliez 11:30 - Chantilly - Maiden - 9f A less striking debut from Procurement but one that offered promise all the same. The filly only had the two behind her turning in and although she was outpaced up the straight she wasnt knocked about and did pass a couple late on; shell improve a great deal for this and a step up in trip wouldnt go amiss either. Result: Rocket Ship - 1st Sinndar x Bimini / Bay Gelding 5/3/11 Form: 742221 Sir Michael Stoute / James Doyle 3:00 - Catterick - Maiden - ext.11f Came into this contest a red hot favourite, and looked what the Americans would call a ‘cinch’ spot raiding a low-grade northern meeting for its glories. James Doyle doesn’t go up to Catterick very often, and didn’t have to do an awful lot aboard the gelded son of Sinndar who simply outclassed his opposition as expected. He doesn’t look anything out of the ordinary and will most likely head to the sales at some point, but could make up into a fair jumper if put in the right hands with more experience under his belt. Result: Calibrate - Non Runner Rail Link x Valentine Girl / Bay Filly 7/4/10 Form: 414- Dermot Weld / Pat Smullen 6:30 - Naas - Conditions - 6f Calibrate was a non runner this evening. Result: Amber Isle - 9th First Defence x Family / Bay Filly 28/2/11 Form: 4-219 e b Roger Charlton / James Doyle 9:20 - Kempton - Handicap C4 - 6f Despite a lack of experience at this level I expected better from this full sister to Dundonnell, especially with her racing style but ultimately she proved very disappointing after going too hard in front throughout the first half of the race. When asked to dig in by James Doyle the petrol light was on empty a furlong from home and she dropped right out of it at the finish, finishing a tired horse in ninth. She doesn’t look anything out of the ordinary on what we’ve seen so far, but you’d hope she can improve on this performance next time.
