Wednesday News--- Partly sunny with a high of 33 ------------------------------- Michigan lawmakers are breathing new life into bills that would force retailers such as Amazon to collect the states sales tax on Internet purchases. The House on Tuesday prepared the legislation for a possible vote as early as Wednesday. Similar bills are pending in the Senate after a committee approved them last week. Retailers with stores in Michigan must collect the 6 percent sales tax when selling items online. But Internet-only stores like Amazon dont have to assess the sales tax unless they have a physical presence in the state. Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette says hes joined other state attorneys general who are challenging President Barack Obamas executive order easing the nations immigration procedures. Texas is leading a coalition of states suing the government. It says in the lawsuit filed last week that Obamas decision tramples key portions of the Constitution. Obama announced the executive actions in November, saying lack of action by Congress forced him to make sweeping changes to immigration rules on his own. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources says the deer hunting harvest was down this year from last year during firearm season. According to preliminary estimates, the DNR says the number of deer killed appears to have decreased in all regions this year, but particularly in the Upper Peninsula. DNR biologists estimate that the harvest was down about 30 to 40 percent from last season across the Upper Peninsula, decreased perhaps as much as 10 percent in the northern Lower Peninsula and was down about 5 percent in the southern Lower Peninsula.
