Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2014 Sorry for the delay had some technical issues today. Sunday at Santa Anita: It was sunny. The day was a good one though I was focused on the race I was gonna ride now. I got the word from Mr. Pete and I was ready. Wishing there were another nine races to ride but I was gonna make the best of this one. I was relaxed knowing a firster would need me relaxed and in charge. We stepped onto the main track leaving the paddock tunnel in good order. Made the left turn to join the post parade and then it happened – Two kids decided to make the Santa Anita apron their soccer field. My mounts ears pricked looking for an excuse and found one, as soon as the kids kicked the pretend soccer ball (a coke can), she reared like a Lipizzaner. She arrived full-tilt in the air, and while I waited as long as possible, I had to step off to avoid ending up underneath her. The sheer forced momentum caused me to roll and lose my footing. I gathered myself and reviewed the situation and instinctively decided I needed to stop her from running off and possibly injuring herself. As many horse lovers will tell you it’s your first thought – The horse! I stepped forward while she was still upside down and reached out for her reign. She had other ideas – She righted herself, spun like a top and double barreled my chest as if she had done it a hundred times. Target practice it felt like. I flew 10 feet and truly it was the first moment I thought of my own survival. The adrenaline blocked the initial pain but not for long. Off I went in the aid car. The professionals who cared for me post-accident as well as those in the emergency room did their jobs while my mind spun: I had another mount. Pain was becoming unbearable but my mind flashed to Peter hoping the baby was OK. More excruciating pain. My wife is gonna be sad and scared. Shes strong but so loving she wouldnt be able to hide her concern and I wouldnt know how to make her smile through this all and My team and My loyal fans. Then I remembered. Im the one under emergency care. Theyre gonna have to step up. Wow, did they! Im here today to thank you for your incredibly loving support and to let you know I have hairline fractures that should heal in the Desormeauxs family way....Fast and better than ever. It will be sooner rather than later; thank the Lord so rest your minds. Ill be back in the Winner’s Circle much sooner than you thought. Thank you again for your loving support. It is warmly accepted and appreciated. Kent
