Wednesday October 15 , 2014 On This Day In The Life Of Elvis (photo info at the end of post) October 15, 1949 The Housing Authoritys newspaper, The Memphis Appeal, listed the Presley family as one of the seventeen families who had moved into the courts recently. October 15, 1954 Elvis, Scotty and Bill played The Eagles Nest in Memphis, a nightclub over the changing room at the Clearpool complex. After the show the 3 men went to Shreveport, with Sam Philips. Sam had arranged a try-out on the Louisiana Hayride. After a seven-hour drive, they checked in their hotel, the Captain Shreve Hotel. October 15, 1955 Elvis performed at the Fair Park Auditorium, Lubbock, Texas, and later that evening at the Cotton Club, Lubbock. October 15, 1956 Elvis and Gene Smith travelled back from San Antonio to Memphis by plane. October 15, 1961 After several weeks in Las Vegas Elvis returned to Memphis before travelling to Nashville to record 5 songs at RCAs Studio B between 6:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m. The injured guitarist Hank Garland was replaced by Jerry Kennedy. Again they wanted to record a new single. Good Luck Charm and Anything Thats Part Of You were the result. October 15, 1968 Elvis worked at the Samuel Goldwyn Studios soundstage at 2 songs for his movie Charro from 7.00 p.m. till midnight. October 15, 1970 Elvis was in Memphis. He went shopping and bought a shoulder holster. A couple of days before he was given an official badge which permitted him to carry a pistol. In the evening he attended The Gospel Quartet Convention at Ellis Auditorium where he was introduced to the audience by James Blackwood, leader of the Blackwood Brothers. October 15, 1973 After a short period of feeling well, Elvis, again having breathing problems, forced Dr. Nichopoulos to admit Elvis as his patient to Memphis Baptist Memorial Hospital. Elvis got through a great amount of tests to determine the cause of his condition. Heart failure was ruled out immediately. At first the medical team had no idea at all, what could be the problem, until Dr. Nichopoulos came up with the thought that it could have something to do with Elvis acupuncture treatments in California. Maybe the Demerol included in these injections caused the breathing problem, because of the addictive effect of Demerol. Elvis had to remain in the hospital for 2 weeks and Linda stayed on his side the whole time. October 15, 1974 With Sheila Ryan Elvis travelled to Las Vegas, to put himself under the care of Dr. Elias Ghanem. This doctor had taken care of Elvis during engagements since 1972. October 15, 1976 Elvis performed at the Chicago Stadium, Chicago. PHOTO : Concert at the Chicago , Stadium Chicago , Illinois , October 15 , 1976 ~Sharyn
