Wednesday Review: Hello everyone, today is Christmas Eve but most importantly today is Wednesday so I have a new review for you all. Today Im reviewing the EP titled Zion by Japanese Electric Thrash band, Crossfaith. Crossfaith Zion EP 2013 Genre: Electric Thrash Metal For those of you who don’t know Crossfaith are like a Japanese version of ‘Bring Me The Horizon’ with loads of electro sound effects. Even though they’re from Japan they sing/shout in English and this is the bands second album and their first EP. The opening song, ‘Monolith’, displays Crossfaith’s trademark explosive and destructive sound in four minutes of absolutely astonishing arcade-like Thrash Metal. This is an outstanding and face-melting jump start to the album. When ‘Photosphere’ starts the first 20 seconds sound like an intro to a club dance song but that illusion is quickly shattered with the sound of intense Thrash Metal vocals contrasted by the electro sound effects. I think if you heard this song live it might literally blow you away. From a Heavy metal point of view ‘Jägerbomb’ is a glass-shattering, energy enriched smasher of a track. But, for some of the song the vocalist can’t decide if he wants to be Thrash, Nu Metal or Screamo and shouting random words halfway through lines wasn’t a great idea from the song writer to say the least. ‘Quasar’ is just an audio tape of insanity. Its intro is hard to describe because I have no idea what is going on, I can’t even tell what language the intro is yelled in. It’s simply three-and-a-half minutes of the vocalist shrieking down the microphone like a banshee while the sound effect equipment has a malfunction. The last 30 seconds are understandable and remotely decent but they can’t redeem the lack of quality of the rest of the song. The fifth song is called ‘Dialogue’ and once again has a club music feel and stays that way for most of the track. This song isn’t Thrash or even rock at all and has no vocals, guitar or drums, this is pretty much club music and is very out of place on this EP. The last of the six songs is called ‘Leviathan’ and brings to light that no matter who does Death Metal or how it’s altered or warped, it will always and forever be awful. This EP starts off with a couple of colourful and powerful songs but runs out of steam and wilts half way through. Despite this, seeing Crossfaith live would be an incredible experience. But, I fear that songs like ‘Dialogue’ are the future of Crossfaith as I have a feeling that they’ll end up Linkin Park and will have transformed into a club pop band in about four albums time.
