Wednesday, September 11th devotional Good morning, Richard Carlson, an American author and psychotherapist, made the following statement about criticizing others; "When we judge or criticize another person, it says nothing about that person; it merely says something about our own need to be critical." A quick search on the internet and you may easily come up with 7 reasons why people are critical. Six of those reasons are defensive in nature. “I’m a realist, I care more, I got carried away by passion,” or I’m just being honest.” And a couple more responses similar in nature. Interestingly at the core of their responses are excuses for their behavior. In Proverbs 26 we read; “As charcoal is to burning coals, and wood to fire, So is a contentious man to kindle strife.” (V.21 NKJV) And in Proverbs 27 we read; “A continual dripping on a very rainy day And a contentious woman are alike.” (V.15 NKJV) As these two Proverbs point out, a seventh reason you’ll find on the internet for criticizing is this, “criticizing others is the side-effect of their constant need for approval.” Heavenly Father, help us to clearly consider our words to others. And when we find our self critical to clearly consider our own heart. In Jesus name, amen.
