Wednesday night, March 19, 2014 at 11:15 p.m. Lars, the Facebook photo of your father--it is your father, right?--Ivan Holmstrom keeps appearing on my Facebook page, and he looks phenomenal . . . You probably dont recall, but you mailed me a photograph of him in his garden, and one of your mother as well, about 15 years ago, and I have them still, and your father looks little changed. It must be that pure arctic water you drink, there, and in Iceland, Norway and Finland! They sell it here, by the way, in plastic bottles, especially Icelandic water, but I hesitate to buy any because the price is prohibitive. It is water, right? And we have some wonderful fresh-water springs here in North Carolina, and the water they produce tastes delicious, if delicious is the word I should use. Lets say incredibly refreshing! But to see the photo of your father, I will have to reconsider the Icelandic water regardless of the expense. I turned 63 on March 3, am doing well, but anything will help, including pure, refreshing water! By the way, how old are you? I am thinking 65, but want to hear it from the horses mouth as we say in American English . . . the Swedish horse, a bit strange sounding in English these words, but perhaps not in Swedish, as you also produced the movie My Life as a Dog, MITT LIV SOM HUND which as I have told you, I have seen many times, and thoroughly enjoy! And am now thinking of watching again. Now, I am also perplexed that Iceland did not win its elimination round in the World Cup competition, but the United States mens national team has benefited in the person of Aron Johannsson--an American national born in Iceland, who also played professionally there--and who now plays professionally in the Netherlands for AZ Alkmaar, and is one of the Dutch Leagues leading goal scorers right now at only 23 years of age. Perhaps you or Simon have heard of him. AZ Alkmaar is the same football club Jozi Altidore played for last football season--before moving on to Sunderland in Barclays Premier League--a club whose general manager is former U.S. national team player Ernie Stewart, whose mother, I believe, is Dutch. Altidore and Johannsson may play together at times up front, in striker postions #9 and #10, when the World Cup arrives in Brazil in three months time. I look for the Americans to advance, even though they find themselves in a very difficult group--Germany, Portugal and Ghana. Well, that is naive American optimism for you, something that Henry James would have written into one of his novels, WINGS OF THE DOVE or DAISY MILLER perhaps, some 100 years ago. Let the matches begin.
