Wednesdays Vintage Historical Picture The Fight Club has become a favorite film for many since its release. The thing that many do not know is that the concept of Fight Clubs is nothing new. In the early 1960s, Rufus The Iron Lung Gnorts began a womens auxiliary fight club in the alley behind his home in south Philly. It was a place that women could come to get their aggressions out by brawling with other women. After the bouts each woman sat down with her opponent and discussed what brought them to the club and how they could solve any problems at hand. Many became life long friends after nearly beating each other to death. Gnorts never charged for his version of stress relief thearpy. His reward was seeing the bruised happy faces leave the alley with renewed confidence and the possibility of a new lifelong friend. Gnorts lived until the age of 73 when he was accidentally run over by a group of children having a Big Wheels race on the sidewalk one afternoon while he was walking down the street reading a book on fly fishing.
