The top court decision released Wednesday says the legal process used to detain the Ottawa resident for years was fair and reasonable. The decision means the government can move to deport Harkat, who has argued he faces torture or even death if he returns to Algeria. The matter of his deportation will be handled by immigration and public security officials. CBC An Indigenous National Day of Resistance is taking place today in Ottawa and across the country. Various forms of protest are being held against what is termed Stephen Harper’s termination agenda toward FIrst Nations. This includes First Nations Education Act, Bill C-33, Bill C-10, and the government’s refusal to launch an inquiry into missing and murdered Indigenous women. It began last summer, when the city received international attention after city workers dumped chicken manure at a homeless camp. The City later apologized for the incident.
